Itawamba County is located in the North-Eastern Portion of Mississippi on the border with Alabama. Itawamba County was formed on February 9, 1836 and was named for the Chickasaw leader Levi Colbert, who was also known as Itawamba.

The county seat is Fulton. Fulton is the birthplace of Vernon Presley, Elvis' father. Tammy Wynette was also born nearby. Other Itawamba County communities include: Mantachie, Tremont, Dorsey, and Fairview. In it's first census in 1840 there were 5,375 residents listed. In the last federal census in 2000 the population was 22,770.
